Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from the cells of the breast. Aside from skin cancers, it is the most common cancer among American women (the chance of a woman developing an invasive breast cancer is 1 in 8). The American Cancer Society estimates that 39,520 women in the United States will die from breast cancer in 2011.

Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since 1990, thanks to increased awareness, earlier screenings and improved treatments and now there are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today. This section is dedicated to increasing that number by providing information on breast cancer and giving hope through the stories of other survivors.
